A Brief Moment of Peace

This morning was one of those on which my boy decided to be good.  Instead of making a lot of noise upon waking up, he took the book Winnie The Pooh that he had read halfway, took it to my bed, and started to read silently.  However,  the peace did not last, when the little devil came to join in the 'fun'.  She too, took a book and imitated her older brother's reading position on the bed.  She flipped her book for a while, and decided it was more fun to disturb her brother, thereby ending Ian's reading time.

Although it was a brief moment of peace, I was still delighted at Ian's initiative to read, instead of zooming around noisily with his toy cars like he usually did.

Ian Is Reading!

We finally paid a visit to GDBaby for a refresher course, after procrastinating for so long.  I attended the advanced class first, because I wanted to see how to get back on track with the GD program with Ian. 

Since Ian already knew quite a number of words, I was given a simple book to "test" Ian's proficiency in reading.  To my surprise, he could read most of the book.  When he came across a new word, he would try to sound out by looking at the beginning letters, though he might not get the pronounciation correct eventually.  Hubby said he was looking at the picture and second-guessing the words though.  So, Ian was asked to participate in the demonstration on how to do word-play.  And the instructor concluded that Ian was already reading. 

He did not have to continue with the GD method any more, but we just had to expose him to a big variety of books, and to try to get him to read books with more words and less pictures.  Since Ian already knew the numerals, we did not have to do the Math program with him too, but just to expose him to all the concepts that we ourselves knew.  The world is the limit now.

Before leaving, I had a brief refresher on the method for a newborn.  I hope that with Isabelle, I would get more use out of the cards.

My Baby Can Read?

Today, I picked out a few words on body parts to show Ian. Just for the fun of it, I showed 2 cards at the same time and asked Ian which card is which. To my surprise, he picked the correct cards. Is it just a fluke? I really hope that our efforts on teaching him for the last few months is starting to show results.

We started his Little Neuro Tree lessons today as well. Not one but two accidents on CTE caused us to be very late for the class. But we were grateful that the Japanese sensei still taught Ian for 1 full hour. It was much more enjoyable because Ian was the only baby in the class! No more wailing babies making us distracted, and the teacher focused 100% on him.
