As of today, our baby has reached full-term, at week 37. His organs are well-developed by now and he is ready to see the world. Boy, when do you want to come out?
We are still cracking our heads to think of a good, auspicious name for him. We have shortlisted 2 names - Yi4 An1, and Jun4 An1 - after calculating the strokes using the method in the book "The Book of Auspicious Chinese Names". The strokes are used for calculating the Tian1 (Heavenly Character - Fate that comes with birth), Ren2 (Personal Char - Overall fate), Di4 (Earthly Char - R/S with people around you), Zong3 (Total Char - Life after 35 yrs old), and Wai4 (External Char- R/S with individuals at large). This book also mentioned how to check the five elements (metal, wood, water, fire, earth) using the calculated strokes.
We have several other choices like Yu3 Jie2, Hao4 Lun2, etc. but they have been stroke off the list after our calculations. Are we getting too superstitious? Heh... Anything for our child!
Gosh, I hope our work is not so busy so that we can come home earlier and do more homework! Time is running out... :(

"Fei Zai"
Today's gynae visit must have been one of the longest-waiting for a long time. We arrived at 10.15am and waited till around noon before it was our turn. From this week onwards, Dr Tan will be doing a Strep-B test at every visit until I deliver, and baby's Daddy will no longer be invited to view the U/S images.
At 36 weeks, our baby now weighs 2.8kg (*grasp*), while I gained another 1kg over the past 2 weeks. That means the 0.5kg weight gain has all gone to our baby! At this rate, I'm beginning to worry that by my EDD, which is another 3 weeks away, our baby will be well over 3kg! That portends a tough delivery. (-.-") However, Dr mentioned that everything was normal, and I sure hope so. She reminded me again to learn to relax, if I wish to try for a natural delivery, or else it will be more painful. (I'm trying, I'm trying!)
Our baby is not yet "fully engaged", and Dr Tan said that the EDD still remains at the original estimate. Hopefully, I can endure until then because my backache is killing me at times! She also said that having BH contractions is good cos it pushes the baby downwards. By the way, baby is still in the right position with head down.
By the time we left TMC, it was already 1pm, after all the waiting for the valet service. We went down to Marina Square to check out the JL sale. We found, by chance, a pretty nice eating place called the Hotpot Culture. At $6.90 (before service charge & GST), you get a rather decent buffet spread of several dishes. It was like going to a kopitiam for economic rice but you get unlimited refills and a variety of dishes. There was green bean soup for dessert and watermelon too. The only unsatisfactory part was that the $1.80 green tea that was supposed to be unlimited refills for early birds, turned out to be a tea bag in a cup of hot water. What they meant by the refill was that they would continue to pour hot water for you without changing the tea bag. You know what that means after 2 refills, don't you?
Anyway, no time to waste! We went to JL right after lunch and grabbed a Zojiroshi 2L thermal flask for less than $50 (original price was $70+). Hubby felt that our 1.3L flask is hardly sufficient for the 2 of us at the present moment. With rising electricity costs and another mouth to feed, it is more economical to get another flask to store more hot water, instead of using the airport which requires the electricity to be on continuously.
I had wanted to get the lunch jar since there was a 20+20% sale going on. However, Hubby was right - it isn't really useful to us now - and so decided not to get it after all. What we really need now, is a soup flask, which I think can only be found in the good, old neighbourhood stores. Also, found my Tsubaki hair mask! It is almost double the price here than what I paid for in Japan. For myself, also grabbed another piece of Karmy pajamas for confinement use.
So, what did we get for our boy this time?

Tada!
This FP baby piano has received good review from hubby's friend. Since it's now at 20+20% off, it is too hard to resist from buying one home for our boy! The rattle ball is selling for $9+ originally, but this promotional package comes with door guards and also a teether, all for another $1.
The nursery dept isn't on sale now, but thankfully, we don't really have much left to buy at this stage. And, strangely, many FP toys were not displayed on the shelves during this sale. And, the Zoji magic cooker that we had wanted to get was not sighted too! HMMM....

TGIF!
Today is not an ordinary Friday. Today is Good Friday! Yippie! Finally, a break from work with a 'super' long weekend! Have been a bit stressed over work recently due to tight deadlines and pressure from some users, but thank God that I am finally starting to handover my work from next week onwards. Although, there are still deadlines to meet unless I deliver in this month...Hopefully, I am not passing too much stress onto our baby.
We met up with hubby's friend at the Expo this morning to get some hand-me-down clothes. (Mr A, thanks for the bagful and being a 'follower' of my blog!) There is a BabyCare Festival over this weekend, but honestly, it was not so fantastic. However, the Babysafe and Mustela products were quite worth buying.
Let's take a look at what we have gotten home....
Freebies!
Both hubby and I got a goodie bag each, so we kind of gotten back the carpark fees! The pic shows what is in the goodie bag: First Teeth toothpaste sample, a growth chart, KKH pens, Anmum powder milk sample & UHT milk packet, a voucher for eyebrow embroidery, & a fan. While we were walking around, a kind soul passed us the pair of mittens and booties because she got it free from elsewhere too.
These are not freebies!
Gotten the Mustela baby trial-size pack at $6, and another tube of the barrier cream at $10.50. The barrier cream is so much cheaper than the small tube that we bought from First Few Years last weekend, which is only half the size. I am still unable to tell the difference between the 2! Also gotten the Babysafe oval pillowcase which is a steal at $6 (Disney Pooh prints), the hands-free kit for pumping from Mumsfairy ($27.90), and the GD book "How Smart Is Your Baby?" ($38). Have pondered whether to get the GD kits but at $900+, it was not an easy decision. They were only giving the books free at the fair (totalled up for about $60+), so the savings wasn't attractive enough for us to commit on the spot.
Chanced upon this cute laundry hanger at Ikea, where we had lunch! A blue octopus! It will be handy when we start to wash our little boy's laundry!
Last splurge of the day - a Philips mini stereo set from Courts, at $99!!! Hubby finally decided to go for it since it's so cheap. Now, I can finally listen to the relaxation CD at bedtime. In near future, our baby can listen to his Mozarts too.
Gift...
The beansprout pillows are a gift from an old friend of my mom. These pillows are normally used to put over the baby's chest to give him a sense of security.

It is going to be ANY TIME!
Going into my 36th week in a few days' time! I've already forgotten since when, that I've began to start a countdown every time I get upset or stressed over work (and I just worked OT until 10pm yesterday).
It is becoming increasingly uncomfortable with our baby weighing down on my bladder (and you know what that means) and pelvic area. The feeling is intense especially when I'm in a car that rides over a hump quickly. My backache is getting worse as well. It feels like someone has hammered hardly on my back and it is difficult to walk when the pain is around. And now, I'm trying hard not to waddle! More stretch marks are gradually appearing, but hubby is reassuring me that they will disappear after a few months.
Now, I can't wait for D(elivery)-Day to come. On one hand, I bet I'll miss the cute sensations when baby is moving inside. But on the other hand, it is kind of relieving to actually see the baby with our own eyes, without constantly wondering whether he's doing well inside my tummy.
I have also stopped taking birdnest since the beginning of my 8th month of pregnancy. My mom has began to make black chicken soup with wolfberries+paosheng again. The other tonic I'm still taking is chicken essence. I have also drank some coconut juice at week 33. Heard from other mummies that this will help to 'cool down' the body so that the baby will not suffer from heat rashes on the face after delivery. Have checked this with Mrs Wong and she said the effect is not significant but some mummies drink that every day. Just to be ks, I'm drinking it about once every week or so (if I can find it from NTUC!).
More shopping....almost ready, almost.
During one of the lunches over the week, I visited this brandless shop at TPY and bought 2 pcs of 'branded' long rompers, @ 2 for $10! One of them is from Old Navy so the quality is pretty good.
Today, we finally collected the Medela PIS Advanced pump from Paragon's FFY! The staff showed us how to operate it. Hopefully, it will prove to be worth every cent it costs!
We found the Avent barrier cream in FFY and was contemplating to get a tube of either this or the Mustela one. However, remembering that in the TMC doctor's talk, the PD had mentioned that zinc oxide is the key ingredient for nappy rash, and hence we decided on Mustela.
And, we have finally found the mosquito net for our playpen! Had wanted to get it from Mums & Babes but they no longer sold that when hubby went there some time this week. We found the net at a shop in Punggol Plaza, and it was $10 cheaper than the price at M&B when we first saw it. According to the lady boss, apparently residents around Punggol have problems with mosquitoes and hence, this product sells pretty well in the area! LOL
Also bought a pack of Mamy Poko diapers for newborn! The NTUC at Punggol Plaza had run out of Pampers Newborn, unfortunately.
Have started to pack our hospital bag too - 'our', because we need to pack hubby's jacket and a change of clothes as he would be staying with me.
Hmm, what else have we left out?

Officially 34th Weeks!
Gynae's Visit
I have officially hit the big '6' - I have surpassed the 60kg mark on the weighing scale. But baby is doing well and now weighs 2.3kg! No wonder I'm always getting sensations that feel like menstrual cramps. Dr Tan said that as long as the feeling doesn't go on and off, then it's not a contraction. It is probably due to the pressure on the uterus since baby is growing bigger and bigger. Wonder what will the weight of our baby be during delivery? At this rate, he will be at 2.6kg by the next visit in 2 weeks' time! That's about +200g every week, and I wouldn't be due until another 6 weeks.
She tried to show us the eyes, nose and mouth on the U/S machine, and as usual, we couldn't tell from the black & white screen. Baby was still in the right position - head down, but not yet engaged. Hope he keeps it head down!
We clarified about how to monitor baby's movement - it should be at least 10 movements within 10 hours. If this doesn't happen, I will have to go back for a checkup on the very same day.
We also signed up with Cordlife after the gynae's appointment. One more thing settled! We have collected the kit and will need to bring this along for delivery.
We also bought the towel and wash cloths from the Parentcraft centre, as these were sold out during the class last Sunday. (Hubby has hand-washed the towel and the swaddling flannels after getting home.)
He said, "Can't wait to see our baby!".
Taka Baby Fair
We went straight to Takashimaya from the hospital, to avoid the crowd. By the time we finished lunch at MOS burger, it was around noon and the crowd was getting worse. We walked a few rounds but the fair was - honestly - not very impressive. Not all items were on sale. Had wanted to get some stuff like the Anukka cotton wool balls but it was out of stock! Had wanted to get some diapers but the only thing that was attractive was the Huggies+Kotex promo. However, we wanted to get either Pampers or Mamy Poko.
Anyway, we grabbed the following items:

After the not-so-satisfying shopping trip at Taka, we headed to Robinsons and grabbed the Aromababy non-talc powder for our boy. Still feel that it's pretty expensive at $18+ (after discount), but hopefully it is 'safer' as compared to other talc powder. Also bought another tube of Clarins stretchmark cream as mine was running out fast. No discount this time but I don't think I will have the time to shop, very, very soon.
